Open Letter From the Editor â€ïž
Do you remember the Psycho Haircut from Hell newsletter where I told you about the hair growth journey I started in Summer â24?
Well, thatâs kinda over now.
But before I jump into why itâs over, let me backtrack for a minute to appreciate every stage of my hair growth journey.Â
Winter 2024:The Assessment
During this time, I was working as a Content Manager for Motivations AI. They created a personality assessment that tells you what truly motivates you to succeed. While I was there, I took the test and found that Iâm an Achiever.Â
This meant that hitting goals and seeing results is what motivates me at my core.
Unfortunately, I reached a point in my life where I felt like Iâd run out of goals to aim for, and it was contributing to a lot of the sadness I was experiencing at the time. So I started setting a few small goals to reach over the next year.Â
One of those goals was growing out my hair (more on this below).
Summer 2024:The Haircut
Letâs make this quick.Â
I shaved my head. Youâve already seen the pics. I donât drink, but I definitely wanted to take a few shots after that whole debacle.
Moving onâŠ
Dry January Just Got Way More Delicious and Uplifting đžâš
January doesnât have to feel dull or restrictive. Itâs a chance to reset, feel amazing, and still enjoy the ritual of a great drink. Enter Vesper, Piqueâs newest releaseâand my favorite upgrade to Dry January.
Pique is known for blending ancient botanicals with modern science to create elevated wellness essentials, and Vesper is no exception. This non-alcoholic, adaptogenic aperitif delivers the relaxed, social glow of a cocktailâwithout alcohol or the next-day regret.
Itâs what I reach for when I want something special in my glass. Each sip feels celebratory and calming, with a gentle mood lift, relaxed body, and clear, present mind. No haze. No sleep disruption. Just smooth, grounded ease.
Crafted with L-theanine, lemon balm, gentian root, damiana, and elderflower, Vesper is sparkling, tart, and beautifully herbaceousâtruly crave-worthy.
Dry January isnât about giving things up. Itâs about discovering something better. And Vesper makes every pour feel like a yes.
Fall/Winter 2024: Them Boring Ass Fingerwaves
I hated this stage. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!Â
The fingerwaves got on my LAST nerve. But I LOVED the mold/down look, and it was sooooo quick and easy to do.Â
2025:Curls, Ponytails, Braids & Beyond
I was very comfortable at this stage, but it had a slightly negative impact on my lifestyle. The look was polished, but I wasnât able to move how I wanted to move in terms of sports and the gym.Â

2026:Back to Basics
Iâm back to short hair. But now itâs the question of whether I want to stay relaxed or go natural đ
Being a woman is so hard because I now have to do some soul searching on thatâŠ
THE BIG WHY
Now letâs get into WHY Iâm over this hair growth journeyâŠ
Why do we, as Black women, have an obsession with growing our hair long? Who told us that we have to have hair down our backs???????
Iâm bout to rant right quick đđŸđđŸđđŸ
